Podcast: Arts and the economy

When Covid-19 struck in March 2020, it upended the livelihoods of people who built careers around art, music, theater and other cultural pursuits that thrive on live audiences.

Arts and culture are bouncing back, like other sectors of the economy. But they still have some ways to go to reach their pre-pandemic state, according to Karl Blischke, executive director of the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts, and Kelley Gibson, president of the Cultural Alliance of York County.

In the September edition of YCEA podcast, produced in partnership with biznewsPA, Blischke and Gibson discuss the broader impact of arts and culture — and the leading role it can play in generating economic activity. They also spoke Aug. 31 at an event held by the Economics Club of the York County Economic Alliance.

The next meeting of the YCEA Economics Club is scheduled for Sept. 28 at the Wyndham Garden York. Political analyst G. Terry Madonna will offer a political update ahead of the 2022 midterm elections. More information is available here.
