Lancaster nonprofit names first top exec

The Tandem Center for Shared Business Success, a Lancaster-based nonprofit focused on employee ownership and profit sharing, has hired Drew Mousetis as its first executive director, effective May 20,

The nonprofit was founded last year by Chip Cargas, founder of Lancaster-based software company Cargas.

Mousetis worked most recently as a lead consultant at Cargas, an employee-owned company.

He also worked previously as finance and development director for The GateHouse, a Lancaster nonprofit focused on addiction recovery.

What’s Tandem: The nonprofit aims to encourage businesses to explore profit sharing and employee ownership as a means of building prosperity and strengthening communities.

Cargas launched the nonprofit in November in partnership with the Lancaster Chamber, the Pennsylvania Center for Employee Ownership and the National Center for Employee Ownership.

The Chip and Rebecca Cargas Fund, housed in the Lancaster County Community Foundation, has committed $1 million in seed funding for the initiative.

The nonprofit’s name was inspired by the combined power of the tandem bicycle, a bike built for two.

Chip Cargas, an avid cyclist, has spoken often about the power of employee ownership in boosting his company, which now employs nearly 200 people.

Employees began sharing in Cargas’s profits in 1996 and have owned a growing stake in the business since 1998.
