Hanover plaza near proposed Wawa sells for $2.2M

Local shopping centers are continuing to attract interest from area buyers.

• The latest example is Penn Plaza, an 82,500 square-foot shopping center at 1019 Baltimore St. in Penn Township, York County, outside Hanover.
• The Trone Family Trust, based in Hanover, paid $2.2 million for the plaza, which counts an Ollie’s Bargain Outlet store and a Ninja Logic gym among its tenants.
• The seller was a Harrisburg-based partnership called BSA Enterprises, which was represented in the sale by Larry Kostelac of Lemoyne-based Campbell Commercial Real Estate. 
• The buyer was represented by Keith Kahlbaugh of York-based Bennett Williams Commercial. 

What’s next: The buyer is planning to make some upgrades to the property, which has about 35,000 square feet of vacant space, Kahlbaugh said.

• Penn Plaza was built in 1965 as a department store and last renovated in 1997, according to Kahlbaugh.
• Part of the property’s attraction is its proximity to a proposed Wawa at 1007 Baltimore St., which would be one of the convenience-store chain’s first outlets in York County. Another Wawa is slated for the Dover area.
• Penn Plaza is also near a Weis Markets grocery.
